Robert Louis Stevenson makes an ideal companion for children, and in this joyous collection of poems (accompanied here by Jesse Willcox Smith’s richly-textured illustrations) he participates in the excursions of childhood, with enormous zest. From bed in the summertime, to fires in the fall, from homemade boats to high hay-carts, he sees smells and hears all. One of the little people (but with a great mustache), Stevenson’s marvelous. Read him. You won’t regret the choice.
